The Los Santos Metropolitan Area is the largest in San Andreas and ranks second in size across the United States, trailing only behind Liberty City. It includes two major regions: the urban sprawl of Los Santos and the rugged expanse of Blain County—each contributing a unique flavor to the state's identity.
Los Santos
“The Saints” of the West Coast.
Founded in 1781, Los Santos is the most populous city in San Andreas, with an estimated 12.9 million residents in the present day. It's globally recognized for its booming entertainment industry, centered in the Vinewood district—a sharp parody of Hollywood glitz and glam.
Despite its fame, the city grapples with widespread gang violence, especially in its impoverished neighborhoods. This dichotomy between fame and danger is central to the city's lore and roleplay tone.
1992 Los Santos Riots
The 1992 Los Santos Riots mirror the real-life LA Riots. In the HD Universe, tensions boil over when C.R.A.S.H. officer Frank Tenpenny is acquitted of murder, despite charges of police corruption, brutality, and sexual misconduct.
The riots blend narrative elements from both the LA Riots of 1992 and the Rampart Scandal of the late '90s—highlighting systemic injustice and the resulting civil unrest. Though the violence subsided, gang activity endured well into the 2000s.
Gentrification and Urban Change
Following the unrest, the city invested in gentrification initiatives to redevelop blighted areas—particularly the eastern districts of Los Santos. A prime example is the upscale Rockford Plaza in Rockford Hills, adjacent to Vinewood Hills and Chamberlain Hills.
These developments brought economic revival but also triggered displacement of long-standing communities, driving a wedge between cultural preservation and urban renewal.
Blaine County
A rugged echo of the American frontier.
Located northeast of Los Santos, Blaine County is a rural, sparsely populated region representing the rugged soul of San Andreas. With visuals inspired by the American Southwest and Utah, the county offers arid plains, jagged rock formations, and pine-draped hills that contrast the concrete sprawl of the city.
Geography & Key Landmarks
While life moves slower here, Blaine County is rich in character:
- 🏰 Fort Zancudo: A high-security military installation near the southern edge of the county, vital to federal defense and loaded with restricted tech.
- 🔺 Altruist Camp: A reclusive commune in the north, home to a cult of survivalists often linked to criminal activity.
- 🌲 Paleto Forest: Towering evergreens and rugged trails define this natural haven—perfect for solitude or shady dealings.
- 🚓 Blaine County Sheriff's Office: A modest, underfunded department that upholds order in a land where chaos often reigns.
